Recently, I spoke with Chris Lema, WordPress Evangelist and well-known blogger. When I asked him what his number one tip for bloggers was, he said it was to be consistent. In other words, if you set out to write a blog post two times a week, then be sure to write twice a week. Likewise, if you say you’re going to write a blog post five times a week, then you need to write five times a week. The key is to be consistent–which then allows you to gain more trust with your audience as you continually and consistently provide them with useful information.
But how do you stay consistent with your blogging? What can you do to help make sure that you continually deliver your blog posts on time? Here are some tips on how to be a more consistent blogger that can help you out.
Set Aside a Designated Portion of Your Day to Write
One of the great things about blogging is that you can do it on your own schedule, anytime throughout the day or night. And, you should definitely go ahead and write when you’re inspired to do so. However, if you want to be a more consistent blogger, you really should set aside a specific portion of your day or night and make sure you devote that time completely to your blogging.
When you make the commitment to write your blog posts during a specific time period, it allows you to get into a groove where it just becomes a natural part of your day. And, because it becomes naturally a part of your daily routine, you’ll find it easier to consistently produce content for your blog.
Schedule Upcoming Blog Posts
Another benefit of blogging is that you can automate the process by bundling your blog post writings and then scheduling them out to be published later on your blog. Being able to stock pile your blog posts rather than having to publish the same day you write a post, lets you continually release new content to your audience even if you might not be able to write on a certain day for some reason.
Always Keep your Blog in Mind
Being a more consistent blogger means you need to constantly have blog post ideas in mind. As you go through your daily routine, you should always keep your blog in mind and look for ideas to write about. Make a note about your idea, whether it’s with your smartphone or just jotting it down with a pen and paper. You might be surprised how many blog post ideas you can pile up quickly.
Use an Editorial Calendar
Using an editorial calendar for your blog gives you a number of advantages. But probably the biggest one is that it can be a great motivator to help you keep blogging consistently. Because you’re able to get a clear picture of what blog posts you’ve written and have scheduled for the future, you can not only better track your progress, but your calendar can also be a great motivator to make sure you keep reaching your blogging goals.
Having a consistent blogging schedule not only ensures that you’re continually adding content to your website, it also keeps your audience more engaged and gives you more credibility. By using the techniques above, you’ll be well on your way to more consistent blogging!
