So I just took an online webinar course that was promoted as teaching you how to market your business completely with only social media. Funny thing was, during the training they talked about incorporating your website/blog with your social media. So, apparently you do need a blog after all!
Of course that’s what I’ve been saying all along. You really do still need a blog in 2018. Let’s take a look at the reasons why.
Complete Control over Your Content
Unlike with social media, where you have to abide by their terms and conditions, with your own blog you can decide exactly what and how your content appears online—in terms of both your website design and your editorial content. You have much more freedom to share your vision with others.
Most importantly, you have copyright ownership of your website content. With some social platforms, you’re never sure what the policy is on how or if your content can be used by their organization.
More Flexibility to Get Your Message Across
Along with more control, when you have your own blog you also have much more flexibility in how you present your content to your audience. Not only can you decide how your blog and blog posts will appear as far as your website design, but you can also promote your affiliate products and other monetization efforts as much as you want in just the way that you want to.
When you have your own blog, you can include any type of ads you’d like as well as incorporating sponsored and affiliate links within your blog posts.
Rank Better in Google
While we’ve seen more social media entries appear in Google, the fact remains that your individual blog articles are easier to rank in the search engines. For example, with a WordPress blog, there are a number of excellent free plugins you can use to optimize your blog posts for better SEO performance. Because you have more control and flexibility to improve your on-page SEO features, your blog posts definitely have a better chance of ranking high in the search engines.
Professional Online Appearance
For business owners, especially small businesses, having your own blog is the best way to convey your professionalism to your potential customers. While social media can be a part of your customer acquisition, you really need your own website to show off your products and services, the benefits to your customers, and the latest developments and news from your particular industry. Remember, all businesses can benefit from their own website—not just eCommerce companies.
